The EMR Adoption Incentive and You

What is the EMR adoption incentive?

On February 17, 2009, President Obama signed the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act into law. This act represents a $23 billion section of the economic stimulus package that directly incentivizes physicians to use an EMR by 2012.

LeonardoMD is excited about the opportunity to enable our members to receive this incentive money; keep reading to learn what we're doing to ensure that you qualify.

What do I get for using an EMR?

Eligible providers may choose to participate in 1 of the 2 incentive programs below:

Medicare Incentive: Get an additional 75% of Medicare claims.

  • 2011: up to $18,000 per physician
  • 2012: up to $12,000 per physician
  • 2013: up to $8,000 per physician
  • 2014: up to $4,000 per physician
  • 2015: up to $2,000 per physician

Adopt LeonardoMD before 2012 to get the maximum benefit.

Medicaid Incentive*: Get a check for 85% of the EMR cost.

  • Year 1: up to $21,250 per provider
  • Year 2: up to $8,500 per provider
  • Year 3: up to $8,500 per provider
  • Year 4: up to $8,500 per provider
  • Year 5: up to $8,500 per provider
  • Year 6: up to $8,500 per provider

*More than 30% Medicaid patients required to qualify

Adopt LeonardoMD before 2016 to get the maximum benefit.

How do I qualify for this incentive?

According to the HITECH Act, eligible providers need 2 things to qualify:

  • A "government-certified" EMR
  • Proof of "meaningful use" of that EMR

Although the details of what constitutes a "government-certified" EMR and "meaningful use" will not be decided or announced until December, 2009, LeonardoMD has already identified most of the standards that will be required, and is committed to adapting the application to any new standards as they are announced.

Will the LeonardoMD EMR qualify?

At LeonardoMD, we have built our business on the principle that this type of adaptation should be easy and seamless for our members, and we have been successfully adapting to continuously changing health IT standards for the past 10 years. With regular program upgrades and feature releases, LeonardoMD is committed to providing your practice with the most current tools, technology, and compliance for your practice.

LeonardoMD is excited about the new stimulus for two reasons. Obviously, LeonardoMD's web-based model leverages server technology to easily update all of our members simultaneously. What is even more exciting about this change is that LeonardoMD's subscription-based pricing model means that both our current and future members will receive the maximum monetary benefit from this stimulus package.
